Netflix Gains Subscribers, Loses Profits

Netflix topped 62 million subscribers in the first quarter of 2015 after surprisingly strong growth from the U.S.
Netflix added 2.6 million international subscribers and 2.3 million U.S. subscribers in the quarter.
Still, the company's financial performance was weaker than analysts expected. Netflix missed sorely on earnings expectations, logging only $0.38 per share in profits on $1.4 billion in revenue. Analysts expected earnings of $0.63 per share on revenue of $1.6 billion. Netflix attributed the earnings shortfall to a loss due to foreign currency exchange. It claims that earnings would have otherwise been $0.77.
