States Files Sue Against EPA to Clarify Clean Water Act

30.06.2015
Sixteen states filed lawsuits against the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on Monday.
The lawsuits contest a rule that expands the definition of bodies of water subject to federal pollution controls.
The actions are a coordinated challenge to an EPA rule issued on May 27.
That rule defines the jurisdiction of the EPA and Army Corps of Engineers over rivers, streams, lakes or marshes.
It intended to clarify which waters are protected by the 1972 Clean Water Act from pollutants.
Texas, Mississippi and Louisiana asked a federal court in Houston to declare the Clean Water Act rule unconstitutional.
