The Russian National Anti-terrorist Committee (NAK) announced that three militants were killed and four detained during a "counter-terrorism" operation in the village of Gazi-Yurt in the Russian North Caucasus Republic of Ingushetia, Monday. Earlier stages of the operation had been carried out in five other villages the day before. According to the Federal Security Service (FSB) the operation began after it became known that a group of suspected militants "had planned to carry out a terrorist act in one of the villages." Militants were surrounded in two private homes and when state security forces attempted to enter, the gunmen opened fire. There were no reported casualties among troops or civilians. According to NAK spokesperson Andrei Chatski, the gunmen had earlier been involved in a series of "terrorist" attacks in the country.
