The ashes of the literature Nobel Prize winner Gabriel Garcia Marquez were laid to rest in Cartagena, the city where he began his writing career, Sunday.
The ashes were brought from Mexico where the author had lived for years and died in 2014 at the age of 87.
A bronze bust dedicated to the novelist was unveiled by his son Rodrigo Garcia Barcha at the commemorative ceremony, which took place in the cloisters of Cartagena University, near Garcia Marquez's family home.
Marquez is known for his best-selling novels "One Hundred Years of Solitude" and "Love in the Time of Cholera." In 1982 he was awarded a Nobel Prize in Literature "for his novels and short stories, in which the fantastic and the realistic are combined in a richly composed world of imagination, reflecting a continent's life and conflicts".
