State of Palestine: Clashes continue outside al-Aqsa Mosque

Israeli security forces used stun grenades and rubber-coated steel bullets against Palestinians outside the al-Aqsa mosque in East Jerusalem, Sunday, a continuation of unrest following several incidents of clashes in recent weeks. The clashes between the Palestinians and the security forces reportedly occurred due to the number of Jewish pilgrims who are visiting the al-Aqsa mosque to pray during the Jewish celebration of Sukkot. The Palestinian protesters threw stones at the riot police, railing against the heavy police presence outside the holy site. The al-Aqsa mosque is considered as a holy site for the Jewish people, and is also known as Temple Mount, but is also considered to be the third holiest place of worship for Muslims. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met with his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah el-Sisi on Saturday, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, to discuss the ongoing violence at the site.
