Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak and Pakistani Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi signed an inter-governmental agreement on the construction of the North-South gas pipeline in Islamabad, Friday. The 2 billion, 1,100 km (683.5 miles) pipeline with a capacity of 12.4 bcm per year will connect liquified gas terminals in Karachi with terminals in Lahore and other northern parts of the country. The first phase is expected to be completed by December 2017. Pakistan's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was also present at the meeting.
