The missile attack launched by Iran against US bases in Iraq was announced to mourners at the speculated burial place of slain Iranian Quds General Qasem Soleimani in Kerman, on early Wednesday morning, by the spokesperson of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Brigadier General Ramezan Sharif.
Sharif said that two US bases were hit in retaliation for the assassination of Soleimani, at the same time Soleimani was killed last Friday, that is 1.20 am local time (10.20 pm GMT).
"Thirty-five locations at the big old base of Ain Assad with the capacity of approximately 4,000 US forces and containing state-of-the-art equipment, were attacked with several missiles at the exact time that they committed that crime [killing of Soleimani], at 1:20," announced Sharif.
"Their second base near Erbil was simultaneously attacked as well."
The crowd reacted by chanting "Allahu Akbar" ('God is the greatest').
The ballistic missiles were launched from an undisclosed location in Iran and hit two US air bases in western Iraq. US President Donald Trump tweeted "assessment of casualties & damages taking place now. So far, so good!"
