Germany: Schalke striker Neustadter granted Russian passport ahead of Euro 2016

German Soviet-born football player for FC Schalke 04, Roman Neustadter, picked up a new Russian passport from the Russian consulate-general in Bonn, Monday, ahead of the 2016 European Cup, in which he has sited an interest in playing for his country of origin.
28-year-old Neustadter was born in the former Soviet-Ukrainian city of Dnipropetrovsk in 1988 and still has family living in Russia. His father, Pyotr Neustadter, was also a professional footballer, who played for top league Soviet teams such as Kairat, Dnepr, Tavria, Spartak Vladikavkav, Carlsruhe, Kemnitzer and Mainz.
Neustadter has played for FC Schalke 04 since 2012 and has two caps for the German national team. His new Russian citizenship and passport qualifies Neustadter to play for the Russian national squad in the 2016 European Cup coming up this summer.
On Saturday, the coaches of Russia's national team included Neustadter in a list of 23 players that will training for the Euro Cup finals in France.
