Chairman of Gazprom Alexei Miller attended a ceremony marking the start of construction on the Amur gas processing plant (GPP) in the Svobodnensky District of the Amur Region, Wednesday, while Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke via videoconference. The project will be carried out by the Gazprom and SIBUR companies. Putin hailed the project saying that “SIBUR Holding is developing really fast” and that it will work “in collaboration with Gazprom to cooperate in export and supply.” He went on to wish good luck to those involved in the project. Gazprom's CEO Alexei Miller said the Amur gas processing plant is "one of the key facilities in the integrated Power of Siberia project.” He noted that “purified methane will be supplied to Eastern Siberia and the Far East, and will also be exported to China.” The Amur GPP will be the largest of its kind in Russia and one of the world’s major gas processing facilities, with a nominal capacity of up to 49 billion cubic metres of gas a year. The gas processing plant will also include a helium production block with an annual output of up to 60 million cubic metres, the largest in the world.
