16.07.2018
The working sessions of the 24th Sao Paulo forum opened in Havana on Sunday.
The event is set to bring 439 delegates from some 100 leftist parties, organisations and social movements from across Latin America and the Caribbean together.
Head of the International Relations department of the Central Committee of Communist Party of Cuba, Jose Ramon Balaguer, addressed the delegates, urging them to work towards continental unity using "integration values of Simon Bolivar and Jose Marti in the 19th century and more recently Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez."
The delegates are scheduled to meet over the course of three days from July 15 to 17, with the forum consisting of youth exchange programs, workshops and seminars.
The forum was first launched in 1990 by Brazil’s Workers’ Party in Sao Paulo.
