German Chancellor Angela Merkel backed the US proposal to resume talks on the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), at the Economic Symposium hosted by the German Christian Democratic Union (CDU), in Berlin, Tuesday.
Merkel noted, "I think what we have heard [from US Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross] shows that we should restart the work on a common free trade agreement between the EU and the US." She stressed that numerous issues connected to a free market system like reciprocity and the definition of fair trade could only be sorted out by renewing trade negotiations.
US Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross addressed Berlin's Economic Symposium via video-link. During his address, he stated that US President Donald Trump was willing to relaunch free trade negotiations.
