21.01.2019
Thousands of taxi drivers took to the streets of Madrid on Monday, as an indefinite strike kicked off calling for tougher rules for ride hailing services like Uber and the Madrid based Cabify.
Cabbies gathered in Madrid's centra Puerta del Sol square, where they chanted and waved homemade banners and signs.
Drivers in Barcelona have been using their taxis to block roads and streets since strike action began there on Friday.
A six-day strike last summer resulted in victory for drivers, with the central government agreeing to devolve powers to Spain's autonomous communities, allowing them to limit the number of private hire vehicle permits within their cities.
