Thousands of PEGIDA (Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamisation of the West) supporters marched on the Theaterplatz in Dresden, Monday, against refugees and the so-called "Islamisation" of the West. The anti-Islam, anti-immigration far-right protesters walked through the streets of Dresden, carrying German flags and singing anti-immigrant slogans. A group of anti-fascists organised a counter-protest and booed the PEGIDA supporters. There was a large police presence on hand to prevent the PEGIDA supporters from clashing with the counter-protesters and no incidents were recorded by local authorities. Anti-immigrant and anti-Islam protests have dogged Germany for the last year, with a spike in hate crimes against refugees over the last few months as Europe's refugee crisis spirals out of control.
