Iranian President Hassan Rouhani urged the immediate formation of a fact-finding committee to shed light on the causes of the stampede in Saudi Arabia that killed 464 Iranians, in a speech delivered in Tehran on Saturday. "If it is proven that a number of [Saudi] authorities are to blame for the incident," he said, "we will never forgive [those accountable for] the blood of our loved ones." President Rouhani made the remarks during a sombre ceremony held to pay tribute to the Iranian pilgrims killed in Mina, near the Saudi city of Mecca, on September 24. The deadly crush occured after two large masses of pilgrims conjoined on a busy thoroughfare. The remains of 104 Iranian victims of the incident landed in Tehran early Saturday, with more set to follow in the coming days and weeks. The Iranian president added that all Muslim nations and countries should know the reasons behind the Mina disaster in order to ensure similar events do not occur again. He added that Iran has so far pursued a language of passion, brotherhood, kindness and diplomacy, but will use the language of "might and power" if necessary.
