German Chancellor Angela Merkel invited French President Francois Hollande, President of the EU Commission Jean-Claude Juncker, the Chairman of the European Round Table of Industrialists Benoit Potier, as well as 20 CEOs of leading European companies, to a work dinner at the German Chancellery in Berlin on Wednesday.
The leaders came together for a fifth round of talks on the power of innovation within the union, as well as to discuss the EU's ability to compete on a global scale and the digitalisation of the European market.
"This is about the future of employment," Merkel stated. Her sentiment was echoed by Hollande who promised that "concrete measures" were being worked on.
According to Juncker, "if we create a common European digital market from the national smaller markets, then this will bring in an additional growth of about 415 Billion Euro per year."
In turn, Potier stated that "the EU should aim to become the most attractive proposition for a peaceful society, social cooperation and economic well-being."
