Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu cast his vote in Sukru Doruk Anatolian Imam Hatip High School in Konya province after polling stations across the country opened for the parliamentary elections, Sunday morning. Davutoglu arrived accompanied by his wife, Sare Davutoglu. After voting, he gave a brief press statement at the entrance of the polling station, calling on the Turkish population "to head to the polls" and praising the participation, which he thinks "seems good for now." Up to 54 million people eligible to vote headed to the 175,000 polling stations across the country to decide whether the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) will achieve more seats than the 258 they obtained in the June elections. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's AKP had always won a majority in each election since 2002 before June, when they lost the majority they had always previously held. The general election is taking place in 85 electoral districts, electing 550 members to the Grand National Assembly.
