Hitler massacred three million Jews. There are three million drug addicts. I'd be happy to slaughter them. At least, if Germany had Hitler, the Philippines would have, you know, my victims, I would like to be all criminals, to finish the problem of my country and save the next generation from perdition."
Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte compared himself to Adolph Hitler, stating that he would "be happy to slaughter" the nation's "three million drug addicts" during a press conference from Davao City, Friday.
"Hitler massacred three million Jews. There are three million drug addicts [in the Philippines]. I'd be happy to slaughter them," stated Duterte, adding that "if Germany had Hitler, the Philippines would have, you know, my victims, I would like to be all criminals, to finish the problem of my country and save the next generation from perdition."
The Philippines President also slammed the US and EU for accusations of human rights abuse, stating "US, EU, you can call me anything, but I was never into or I am never into hypocrisy like you. You close your doors [inaudible] to the migrants escaping from the Middle East, you allow them to rot and then you're worried about the death of one thousand, two thousands, three thousands."
Shortly after assuming power, Duterte launched a full-scale war on drugs in the Philippines. As of October 2016, the war on drugs has seen around 3,000 alleged drug dealers killed, thousands arrested and more than 700,000 alleged dealers and drug users surrendering to the police. Duterte has also come under harsh criticism by the international community for his alleged association with reported vigilante groups involved in the war on drugs.
