Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Sudanese Vice President Hassabu Abdalrahman met in Moscow on Monday to discuss on the negotiations between Sudan and South Sudan. Lavrov stated his willingness to discuss "the complex of our relationships" along with the "questions of coordination of international organisations including the assistance in solving the problems" faced by Sudan. He added that Russia is monitoring "the situation in Sudan very closely" and expressed his hopes on "stabilizing the political situation in the country" and guaranteeing "rights and freedom for all the Sudanese people." As for Hassabu Abdalrahman, he said that Sudan appreciates "Russia's contribution in the realisation of the agreements between Sudan and South Sudan," and announced that "another meeting between Sudan and South Sudan will take place on November 16 in Khartoum." Moscow continues to provide a steady platform for the negotiations between Sudan and South Sudan. Both countries are still trying to ease the tension which appeared after South Sudan announced its independence in 2011. A round of conversations between the foreign ministers of Russia and his counterparts from Sudan and South Sudan were held in September in Moscow.
