China to Boost Navy's Capability

China has outlined a plan to boost the capability of its navy amid tension over disputed areas of the South China Sea. The nation has also pledged to increase its "open seas protection" in a policy document issued by the State Council. Across Asia, billions of dollars are being spent on defense - and the budgets are growing. In South East Asia, annual defense spending is projected to reach $52 billion by 2020 from an expected $42 billion this year. Paul Burton, the director of defense analysis at IHS Jane's explained the key points in the latest military strategy document from China.
