Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa accused the US of perpetuating colonialism and violating international law during an address at the EU-CELAC Business Summit in Brussels, Wednesday. During his speech, Correa argued that American sanctions against Venezuela were "based on a ridiculous argument" and "violate international law and Article 3 of the Charter of the Organization of American States." The Ecuadorian leader also commented on the recent improvement of relations between the USA and Cuba, but added that the removal of the "inhuman and illegal blockade" against the island and the return of Guantanamo were necessary for the process to continue. The EU-CELAC Business Summit is aimed at enhancing investment and business cooperation between the EU and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States. This year's gathering runs under the slogan 'Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean: Promoting inclusive and sustainable growth by enhancing the role of Small and Medium Sized Enterprises.'
