26.04.2015
Anti-NATO protesters gathered in front of the Presidency in Sofia, Sunday, decrying Bulgaria’s membership of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation. The protesters later marched to the National Assembly. The demonstrators, carrying flags of Bulgaria, Russia, and the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic, chanted "NATO, go away!” Participants of the march, organised by The Civic Initiative "Sovereignty of Bulgaria and countries around the world," political party Ataka, and Bulgarian Anti-Fascist Union, demanded not only Bulgaria’s exit from NATO, but also the resignation of Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and President Rosen Plevneliev. The protesters also demanded an end to what they see as NATO's "war" and propaganda against Russia and for a return to a steady relationship between Sofia and Moscow. The nationwide protests also took place in Varna, Plovdiv, Dobrich, and Shumen.
