Authorities in Georgia have clarified reporting on the Lafayette gunman's mental health history in their state.
State authorities stated Monday that John Houser, who killed himself after a shooting which left two others dead and nine wounded, was never remanded to psychiatric care against his will.
According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigations, the hospital Houser was treated at in 2008 never resulted in an involuntary order.
Instead, at the request of his family, Houser received a judge's order to be detained for a mental health evaluation.
That order to apprehend, issued for Houser in 2008, is protected by privacy law.
Due to the confidential nature of his records it cannot be determined if Houser was released by the facility or if he voluntarily agreed for a stay of treatment.
He was never ordered involuntarily and against his will to receive mental treatment.
