Joint Bulgarian-Polish military excercises were held at the Graf Ignatievo Air Base near Bulgaria's second largest city of Plovdiv, Friday, as part of the Cooperation Agreement between both governments in the field of defense. The Bulgarian Air Force participated with the use of MiG-29 and MiG-21 jet aircraft as well as military transport aircraft C-27J Spartan, while the Polish Air Force participated with the use of improved MiG-29M/UBM jet aircraft and transport aircraft C-295 and Casa C-130 Hercules. Bulgaria is taking part in the drills to assure greater interoperability through participating in operations under the aupices of NATO and to improve military personnel to work in an international environment. Russia has warned Bulgaria not to allow Polish specialists to repair the MiG aircraft, stating that Poland is not authorised or licensed to carry out repairs or modifications of their engines.
