Eric Bradley, the public relations associate at Heritage Auctions, discussed the value of the chair used by JK Rowling to write the first two Harry Potter books in New York, Tuesday, before the item goes up for auction on April 6.
The chair is made from oak and has the message "I wrote Harry Potter while sitting on this chair" written on it. Rowling was given the chair for free in 1995 while she was living in a council house in Edinburgh. The item comes with a letter of authentication signed by Rowling.
Discussing the item, Bradley said: "This is the actual chair that author JK Rowling sat in when she wrote Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, the first two books of probably one of the most famous books serious of the 20th century."
The chair was last put up for auction in 2009 when it sold for £19,555 ($27,792/ €24,419). This time round bidding on the chair will start at $65,000 (€57,109), according to Heritage Auctions. The auction will take place at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in New York on Wednesday.
