Victorious Liberal Party of Canada leader Justin Trudeau addressed his supporters at Montreal's Queen Elizabeth Hotel, in the early hours of Tuesday, after he was elected as Canada's new prime minister. Forty three-year-old Trudeau, a former teacher, is the second in his family crowned with the title following his father, Pierre Elliott Trudeau, who was prime minister of Canada from 1968 to 1979. Leader of the Conservative Party Stephen Harper, who was seeking his fourth consecutive term as prime minister, lost out to Trudeau in a late surge of critical votes. The Liberals, who held only 36 seats at the time of Parliament's dissolution won with a majority, making Trudeau the first new leader of Canada in almost 10 years.
