World of Football Reacts to FIFA Arrests

The arrests of several senior officials for alleged racketeering, conspiracy and corruption, followed swiftly by the opening of an investigation into awarding Russia and Qatar the next two World Cups, marked a spectacular day for FIFA. As a long overdue storm surrounded the orgnization, FIFA insisted it was "pleased to see that the investigation is being energetically pursued." Meanwhile, spokesman Walter De Gregorio, wheeled out alone to face the world's press, repeated that it was a "good day." Meanwhile, Prince Ali bin Al-Hussein, who is current FIFA president Sepp Blatter’s challenger in Friday’s election, said it was a "sad day for football." He also outlined his thoughts for moving on from the "crisis" while UEFA, the body that governs European football, said it was "astonished and saddened by the events."
