Several residents of Caracas with Syrian roots voiced their support for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and the Russian military operation in Syria while speaking to RT, Monday. Adel al-Zabayar, a deputy of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela, said "the decision of the Russian government to intervene in the Syrian conflict was made right in time because it was clear that the mass desertion of refugees to Europe was the plan of Saudi Arabia and Turkey." Representative of the Arab Federation in Venezuela, Miguel Fattal, whose parents left Aleppo for Venezuela in the 1950s, criticised the US and NATO's approach to the conflict. "At first the US and NATO said that the only way to resolve the conflict in Syria was the resignation of Bashar al-Assad. Now they have had to admit that the conflict can be resolved through a transition period in which Bashar al-Assad, who can resign after some time, should take part. But I believe that only the Syrian people must decide the destiny of their country," he said. International political analyst Layla Tajeldine said that the positive impact of the Russian military operation "will last for a long time if the US and their allies stop encouraging these terrorist groups, stop paying them, creating and training them, as we have seen them do before."
