White House Condemns Rebel Attacks in Yemen

The White House condemned attacks by Shiite Houthi rebels near the Yemeni port of Aden on Wednesday as Yemeni President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi fled the country. White House spokesman Josh Earnest noted that the Houthis have aligned themselves with former Yemeni president Al Abdullah Saleh, who was ousted in 2011 as part of the “Arab Spring,” while Hadi is a U.S. ally who cooperated with efforts to combat the rise of extremists in the region.
