The presidents of Costa Rica, Ecuador and Paraguay emphasised the need for a collective regional effort to resolve the crisis in Venezuela, speaking at a panel discussion in the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2019 in Davos on Tuesday.
"What this nation [Venezuela] is suffering requires strong and specific positions," said President of Paraguay Mario Abdo Benitez who said he was hopeful a peaceful solution could restore democracy in the country.
President of Costa Rica Carlos Alvarado Quesada emphasised the far-reaching effects of the Venezuelan crisis, affecting all countries in the region.
"This is a problem for all of us, for the region. So, if the democratic and economic situation of my neighbour improves, we all will be better," he said.
Lenin Moreno, President of Ecuador, touched upon the heavy influx of Venezuelan migrants fleeing the dire economic conditions into their neighbouring countries adding, "The solution… is to solve it all together. Solve it amongst all of us."
Numerous world leaders and prominent business figures are among the speakers at the forum, which will bring together 3,000 participants representing over 100 countries.
The theme of this year's meeting is Globalization 4.0: Shaping a Global Architecture in the Age of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
WEF 2019 will run from January 22 to 25.
