Thousands of protesters marched through the streets of Yerevan and held a sit-in demonstration, condemning the increase of electricity prices on Monday evening. The Regulatory Commission raised electricity prices by 16 percent last week, increasing them for the third time in three years. Armenian President Serzh Sarkisian proposed to meet a small group of protesters, but the activists rejected the offer and took to the streets instead. As the demonstrators attempted to march through Marshal Baghramyan Avenue, they were blocked off by the police, which then resulted in a sit in protest. If the price increase is not reviewed, protesters have announced they will march on the president's residence. The police has warned the protesters that they can use force should public order disrupted.
