Iraq: Govt. forces bring in reinforcements for Mosul offensive

Iraqi army forces alongside regional militias prepared for a final assault to evict the so-called Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIL/ISIS) militants from Mosul, on Saturday.
According to local sources, IS militants set fire to oil in trenches around Mosul, to raise huge pillars of smoke to hide them from allied airstrikes.
Mosul is the last major city in Iraq under the control of IS, and the army has recently been working towards its recapture by liberating nearby towns and cutting off supply routes to the militants who remain in the city. Mosul has been under the control of the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIS/ISIL) since June 2014.
