Former Russian Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin proposed to bring forward the presidential elections in order to announce new reforms during a question and answer session at the 19th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF 2015), Thursday. His statement follows some unconfirmed reports that he is planning to run for president. "You know, I liked how Nazarbayev implemented the programme '100 steps,' referring to current Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev. Additionally he conducted the presidential elections ahead of the schedule in order to announce this structural reform programme sooner. "As we don't bring forward the Duma elections, why don't we bring forward the presidential elections in order to announce a new reform programme, which would be easier to implement for having the confidential mandate for it," Kudrin argued. The 19th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum is currently underway and runs until June 20. Despite sanctions, more than 7,000 guests and 1,000 international companies including the heads of BP, Royal Dutch Shell and Total are expected.
