Russian President Vladimir Putin met with his Argentine counterpart Mauricio Macri on the sidelines of the G20 summit in the Chinese city of Hangzhou, Monday.
At the meeting, Putin said Russia regards Argentina as a "notable trade and economic partner in Latin America." Putin stated that "despite all the difficulties that we've discussed today, the trade turnover between our countries grew by 1.7 percent in January to June."
In turn, Macri said it was "important to develop different spheres of relations" between the two countries, identifying "energy" as the most important area. He elaborated that "Argentina has serious difficulties in this area. Hence, we should deepen our cooperation there."
This was the first meeting between the heads of state since Macri was elected president of Argentina in December 2015.
