Honda Motor said on Friday it has linked the September 2014 death of a woman in Los Angeles, California, to the rupture of a Takata airbag inflator.
Eight deaths are now attributed to the defective airbags.
Honda said the 2001 car had been issued a salvage title in October 2011.
After which a San Diego rental car agency purchased it.
Jewel Brangman later rented the car during August 2014.
U.S. highway safety regulators confirmed Brangmen is the seventh death in the US related to the faulty part.
Another death occurred intentionally.
Honda has issued recalls for affected vehicles since 2009.
To date they have issued four recalls related to the Takata airbags.
