Workers cleaned the blood off the streets outside the Imperial Marhaba hotel in the Tunisian resort town of Sousse, Saturday, after a gunman opened fire on a beach beside the hotel on Friday killing at least 39 people - including British, Belgian and German tourists - and injuring 36. Tunisian officials stated that security forces shot and killed the gunman, identified as 23-year-old Saifeddine Rezgui, who was not known to authorities prior to the attack. During the attack, Rezgui, a student at Kairouan University, reportedly pulled a Kalashnikov assault rifle from a beach umbrella and started firing at groups of tourists who were relaxing on the beach. The majority of the people killed in the shooting are said to be British. At this stage British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond has identified five UK nationals, but warned the number may rise. Authorities are treating the shooting as an act of terrorism. The Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS, ISIL) militant group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
