Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) deployed Beriev Be-200 amphibious aircraft to the Krasnoyarsk region on Tuesday in a bid to contain the massive wildfires raging across Siberia.
According to the ministry, the aircraft dropped some 27 tons of water on a vast fire near the village of Boguchany. EMERCOM said that three Be-200s took part in the effort to extinguish the wildfires.
According to Russia’s Aerial Forest Protection Service (FSA), more than 300 wildfires are raging across Russia on a total area of 2.8 million hectares. Majority of the blazes are located in Siberia in the regions of Irkutsk and Krasnoyarsk.
Authorities have declared a state of emergency in four federal constituent entities of Russia; in the regions of Irkutsk and Krasnoyarsk, the Republic of Buryatia and in the Republic of Sakha.
