Clashes between Government of National Accord (GNA) forces and the so-called Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) continued to dog Sirte, Tuesday, with the spokesperson for Al-Bunyan Al-Marsoos or ‘Solid Structure’ militia stating that the takfiri militant group would soon be driven from the city.
Despite the militia spokesperson Brigadier Mohammed Al-Gosri stating that IS had incurred large losses of both lives and weapons, heavy fighting continued in the beleaguered city. With tanks still patrolling through the area, mortar fire caused severe damages, with one shell hitting a car, injuring 10 bystanders.
Since the beginning of the fighting in Sirte, which kicked off two months ago, some 241 have died, according to Misurata Central Hospital. The mission has been led by Al-Bunyan Al-Marsoos or ‘Solid Structure’, a Misurata-based conglomerate of militias allied to the UN-backed GNA.
