Syria: Syrian Army prepares to withdraw tanks from Aleppo's Castello Road

Syrian government troops on Thursday prepared to pull back some of their armour from the frontline near Aleppo as per the truce deal brokered by the US and Russia. According to the agreement, the Syrian Army and opposition must withdraw tanks, artillery, mortars and APCs 3.5 km (2.17 miles) from Aleppo's Castello Road. Some reports state that the Syrian Army has already begun the withdrawal process.
The withdrawal is intended to create a safe haven so that humanitarian organisations can deliver aid to civilians trapped in Aleppo. Heavy earth moving machinery was seen digging trenches to relocate some of the heavy armament and military hardware.
On Wednesday Russia's Defence Ministry announced that Moscow had called for an extension of the cessation of hostilities in Syria for another 48 hours. A ceasefire regime across the country came into force on Monday at 19:00 local time.
