Stranded Refugees Left for Dead on the Southeast Asian Sea

The situation is growing more dire by the day in the Andaman Sea, where an estimated 4,000 people are believed to be stranded on packed fishing boats with dwindling supplies and no clear idea of where to turn next,
According to the U.N. Refugee Agency many of these refugees have boarded the ships looking for a better life in Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia, but a recent crackdown on human trafficking in the region has made the journey more dangerous for migrants.
The migrants are mostly Rohingya Muslims, who are seeking refuge from persecution in Myanmar, as well as impoverished Bangladeshi nationals.
Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia have all allegedly turned ships back to sea in recent weeks, as some smugglers are reportedly abandoning vessels altogether. Usually out of fear of punishment, which ends up leaving thousands of people on board with limited food and water.
