Brazil: Head of Syrian Delegation to Olympics discusses refugee athletes

Head of the Syrian Delegation to the Rio Olympic Games Ibrahim Abazid commented on the Syrian athletes who are participating under the banner of an international refugee team, when speaking to RT in Rio de Janeiro, on Saturday.
Abazid said of Yusra Mardini, a 17 year old Syrian swimmer who is competing in the Games as part of the Olympic Refugee Team, " We hope that Yusra Mardini will be able to improve her performance where she lives today and in the future will see her as a part of the Syrian Olympic Team and it is a great honour for us."
Mardini came seventh in the women’s 100m freestyle this week. The 17 year old, who represented Syria at the short-course World Championships in Turkey in 2012, fled the conflict in her home country along with her sister, Sarah, in August 2015 and now resides in Germany.
