17-Year-Old Discovers a Huge Alien Planet 1,000 Light-Years From Earth

Tom Wagg discovered a planet 1,000 light-years from Earth and he's only 17. The student has been completing work-experience coursework at Keele University in Staffordshire, United Kingdom through the WASP program. According to a news release from the university, Wagg cleverly managed to spot the unknown planet when he was 15 by "finding a tiny dip in the light of a star as a planet passed in front of it." It has taken two years of analysis to confirm his discovery. While astronomers around the world have found more than 1,000 alien planets, the organization believes Wagg may be the youngest to ever do so.
