Syria's first lady, Asma al-Assad, gave an interview to Russia 24 in Damascus, Tuesday, where she slammed Western media for its coverage on the Syrian conflict.
During the interview, the wife of President Bashar al-Assad argued that "the Western media decided to focus on these tragedies [tragedies of Alan Kurdi and Omran Daqneesh] because it suited their media agenda. It's actually the West that is dividing our children in this conflict."
She expressed that as a Syrian she is "saddened by the loss of every single child, whether it's Alan [Kurdi] or Omran [Daqneesh] or the many others whose names did not reach Western headlines."
The dual British-Syrian national also stressed that the "humanitarian aid should not be determined by geography, political orientation or religious belief. It cannot be allowed to be driven by political agendas."
It was Asma al-Assad's first interview with international media since the beginning of the Syrian war.
