Russia and Greece signed a memorandum on the construction of the Turkish Stream natural gas pipeline through the territory of Greece as he met his Greek counterpart Panagiotis Lafazanis on the sidelines of St. Petersburg's International Economic Forum, Friday. According to Novak, the construction of Greece’s segment of the pipeline will start in 2016 and finish in 2019. Greece will also receive a loan from Russia for the construction, estimated to be around €2 billion ($2.26 billion). The construction of the Greek extention of the pipeline will be operated by a joint company, with the two countries receiving shares.
