Head of the Main Operations Department of the Russian Armed Forces General Staff, Andrei Kartapolov, announced in Moscow on Saturday that the Russian Air Force has carried out "more than 60 flights" in the Syrian Arab Republic in order to "destroy 50 infrastructural facilities of the terrorist organization ISIL." The strikes were "carried out around the clock from the Hmeymim air base along the whole depth of the territory of Syria," he added. According to Kartapolov, among the destroyed ISIL facilities are command centers, military supply depots with ammunition and explosives, communication hubs, mini-plats for weapon production and training camps for militants. The Russian Air Force managed to "undermine" terrorists’ material base and "significantly" reduce their combat potential. "Our intelligence records that militants are leaving areas which were under their control. Panic and desertion started in their ranks. Yesterday, about 600 foreign mercenaries left their positions and are trying to get to Europe," he stated. "In this regard, we will both continue our airstrikes and boost their intensity,'" he added. Kartapolov confirmed that Russia warned the United States ahead of launching its air strikes and recommended that the United States stop its own flights in areas where Russia's air force is operating.
