UNCHR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) spokesperson Carlotta Sami lamented Sunday’s capsizing of the ship carrying hundreds of migrants as “the most tragic ship wreck" in Mediterranean history as she waited for the survivors of the disaster at Catania's docks, Monday. Sami said the issue calls for "shared responsibility," with a portion of survivors expected to arrive at Catania’s port over the coming hours. Between 700 and 950 migrants died when a boat capsized North of Libya on Sunday morning. Over 1600 people have now died trying to cross the Mediterranean in 2015 alone, a 50 percent increase compared to the same period as last year when over 3000 died all year.. 'Operation Mare Nostrum,' the Italian search and rescue operation was discontinued in November 2014 and replaced by the much smaller 'Triton.'
