Measures have been taken to protect the alleged victim and she has received the appropriate care. The United Nations has also asked the troop contributing Government of the soldier implicated by these allegations to launch an investigation as soon as possible." United Nations spokesperson Stephane Dujarric gave a statement in New York on Thursday after the UN Mission in the Central African Republic received information of allegations of sexual abuse of an underage involving one of the Mission's soldiers in the Eastern part of the country. Speaking to reporters Dujarric said the Head of the Mission, Babacar Gaye, immediately launched an investigation and informed the CAR authorities. Dujarric added "measures have been taken to protect the alleged victim and she has received the appropriate care." The allegations came a day after Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon ordered an independent review panel to investigate the United Nations' handling of sexual abuse allegations involving foreign troops in the Central African Republic (CAR).
