USA: Government is shutdown because 'Democrats will not fund border security' - Trump

US President Donald Trump heaped blame for the ongoing government shutdown on his Democratic opponents in a speech to the American Farm Bureau Federation in New Orleans, USA, on Monday.
"The government remains shutdown for one reason and one reason only, the Democrats will not fund border security, our safety, our national security," Trump stated.
The president also claimed that the Democratic party is only opposed to the wall due to the 2020 US presidential race, saying that "they think that's a good thing for 2020 cause they're not going to win. They think if they can stop me from building the wall, that's good. This is the reason why they don't want the wall built."
He added that his administration had "taken the toughest ever actions to confront China's unfair trade practices" and said that he wanted "a fair deal for American farmers removing China's arbitrary bans on agricultural imports, safeguarding our intellectual property and providing fair market access to all American producers."
The ongoing partial US government shutdown became the longest in history on Saturday and is now entering its 24th day. The shutdown began on December 22 2018 and was sparked by Trump's refusal to sign any funding bill that did not include money to build a wall along the US-Mexico border, one of his key campaign pledges.
