Pentagon Confirms Military Sent Live Anthrax to Laboratory

A U.S. defense official speaking on condition of anonymity said the U.S. military mistakenly sent at least one live anthrax sample to a private laboratory in Maryland with others possibly sent to eight states.
The official stated the samples were meant to be in an inactive state for research purposes.
He added the samples are now believed to be secure.
The Pentagon confirmed an investigation into the incident was underway.
They indicated no public health risk.
The safety of the laboratory personnel is not known at this time.
