09.12.2018
Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan voted in snap parliamentary elections at a polling station in Yerevan on Sunday. The early elections follow his resignation on October 10.
Nine parties and two pre-election blocs are listed on the ballot. A total of 2,010 polling stations are open with 2.57 million citizens eligible to vote.
The My Step Alliance spearheaded by Pashinyan is favourite to win, according to opinion polls.
According to the country’s constitution, a political organisation that secures the majority of votes is to form a government and choose the prime minister.
Over 23,000 local and 500 foreign observers from eight organisations including the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, the Parliamentary assembly of the Council of Europe, and the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly are monitoring the election.
