Russia: Soldiers queue up to vote in St Petersburg
Soldiers from Russia's Western Military District queued up to vote in a polling station in St. Petersburg, on Sunday. They were casting their ballots both for the State Duma parliamentary elections and for St Petersburg's local legislative assembly.
Most of the soldiers came in military uniform to cast their votes, with observers watching them closely as they dropped ballots into boxes, to comply with the voting rules.
Federal and regional elections are held on September 18 throughout Russia.
Half of the Duma’s 450 deputies will be elected in single-seat electoral districts formed from the constituent entities of the Russian Federation. The other half will be elected in the Federal electoral district (the entire territory of Russia) by voting for party lists.
